Helmed by construction giant Sir Robert McAlpine, the 700-million pound Victoria Square development in Woking’s town centre promises to transform life for its residents. A joint venture between Woking Borough Council and Moyallen Group, a consortium known for owning and investing in shopping centres, Victoria Square is on track for phased completion in Spring 2022.
The project will be home to two residential towers, standing at 32 and 34-storeys high, and including over 400 high-specification apartments in an enviable location. Anchored by 125,000 feet of commercial space, Victoria Square will provide residents with new shopping opportunities, a medical centre, and two public plazas.
Described as the ‘lynchpin in Woking’s quest to establish itself as a major economic player’, the development will also feature a third 23-storey tower, which will play host to the town’s newest hotel – the Hilton, Woking. With 189 suites, a stylish sky bar, an on-site café and restaurant, the Hilton’s stunning facilities and great location make it a lucrative addition to Victoria Square.
Architecture, master planning and interior design for the project has been handled by renowned designers Benoy, whose impressive resume includes Birmingham’s iconic Bullring, Manchester Airport Terminal 2, and a plethora of projects across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Choosing the Profile
When Wandsworth Electrical was selected to supply electrical solutions in the Hilton, we were honoured, given the transformative nature of the wider project, the stature of the involved developers and the prestige of the Hilton.
Given our extensive experience on similarly-feted projects, we knew our products were of a suitable calibre for such a development, but choosing a profile and finish posed a new challenge. In order to fit in with the hotel’s interior design, which simultaneously exudes modernity and warmth, Wandsworth felt that a timeless shape with a contemporary finish would be perfect.
As such, we selected the Classic Collection for installation throughout the hotel. Combining traditional design ethos with understated style, the Classic Collection’s clean aesthetic perfectly sums up the British-made design excellence on which Wandsworth has built its name. A seamless addition to the hotel’s interior, the Classic Collection’s flush-fitting, low-profile look offered a distinctive yet dependable solution.
Choosing the Finish
When choosing the finish, we aimed to continue the minimalistic theme made clear by the Classic Collection. We therefore chose Matt Black, a staple in minimalist design trends over the past few decades. Its undeniable class and effortless look fit in nicely amongst the hotel’s other design elements and reinforced the quality of Wandsworth’s offering.
Matt Black’s subtle texturing feels solid, reliable and premium in-hand, driving home the prestige of the development and ensuring a long lifespan. Smudge and stain-proof, this finish will stand the test of time in every regard.
The team at Wandsworth cannot wait for the entire development at Victoria Square to be opened in its entirety and are excited to see the impact the project will have on the community and local area.
