Southwark Fire Station, London

Southwark Fire Station has been the home of local heroes in London for over a century. The former fire and rescue facility is a phenomenal Grade II listed building steeped in a rich history that dates back to 1777 when the station was originally built. This distinctive heritage building boasts striking Gothic Revival style architecture, featuring decorative relieving arches and rubbed terracotta brickwork which has an important story to tell.

The fire station was the first headquarters and training hub of the London Fire Brigade. In the 1870s, this iconic station’s architecture set the benchmark for how other London-based fire stations would be built, paving the way to a safer more efficient community.

It is this distinguished part of the building’s heritage that makes the new Brigade Court development so unique. As this building remains one of the very few of its kind, there was a strong obligation to preserve the buildings heritage façade in addition to creating an exceptional residential complex.
